Metallographic Structure
254SMO is a face-centered cubic crystal structure. In order to obtain an austenitic structure, 254SMO is generally annealed at a temperature of 1150 to 1200 degrees Celsius. In some cases, the center of the material may have traces of the metallic intermediate phase. However, in general, they have no adverse effect on impact strength and corrosion resistance. When placed in the range of 600-1000 degrees Celsius, these phases may precipitate on the grain boundaries.
