California to ban sales of new gas-powered cars

The New York Times has reported that the California Air Resources Board has issued a rule that requires all new cars sold in the state by 2035 to be free of greenhouse gas emissions, thus accelerating the statewide transition to electric vehicles.

The rule requires that by 2026, 35% of new passenger vehicles sold must produce zero emissions; by 2030, that requirement climbs to 68%.
