Aug 12, 2022 (China Knowledge) - China Iron and Steel Association and Chinese Society for Metals have just announced the recipients for this year’s 2022 Metallurgical Science and Technology Award. It is the highest scientific and technological award for the metallurgical industry that is officially designated by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.

This year CITIC Pacific Special Steel (000708) bagged a total of 7 awards. Its subsidiary Jiangyin Xingcheng Special Steel's project on "Innovation and Application of High-efficiency and Low-consumption Manufacturing Technology of Super-Large Specifications and High-Quality Steel Plates for Energy" and the "Longer Lasting Mechanism, Key Technology and Application of Special Steel for Basic Parts" jointly participated by Daye Special Steel won the first prize.

The projects that won the first prize this time created the world's largest cross-section 450×2600 mm straight arc continuous casting. This innovation on high-efficiency and low-consumption manufacturing technology for super-large-scale high-quality energy steel promotes the production of medium-thick plates. Another innovation involves key technologies such as ultra-pure smelting of special steel, homogenized continuous casting, and new controlled rolling and controlled cooling that could provide higher-quality materials for the downstream industries.

In addition, its R&D integration and industrial application of steel for high-durable extendable connecting rod and key technology and application of wire for ultra-long-life and super reliable ball bearings’ wheel hub won the third prize.

The company’s another production base, Daye Special Steel, won the third prize for the project on "Key Technology Innovation and Application of Core Component Materials of Large Drilling and Production" and "Development and Application of Key Technology of High Durability and Toughness Hardening Stainless Steel in the Field of Oil and Gas Exploitation".

Qingdao Special Steel, another subsidiary of CITIC Pacific Special Steel, also won the third prize for the project on "Key Technologies for the Development of Wire Rods for Ultra-High Durable Bridge Cables Based on Off-Line Salt Bath Quenching Process Design".
