Meltio, a manufacturer of disruptive laser metal deposition technology, announced the addition of four new metal wires to its own metal wire materials range. The Meltio materials will keep their open materials platform option to emphasise the importance of materials as a key factor in the 3D printing user experience.

By adding these four metals to the Meltio portfolio, they can delve deeper into the realm of materials and provide parametrized welding wires for a wide range of applications as well as a few niche ones. With guaranteed part properties and optimised print profiles, the new range continue to provide the same first-time-right experience as the first batch. Furthermore, Meltio’s goal with the expanded range is to appeal to a wide range of customers, regardless of previous experience with welding or metal additive manufacturing.

Meltio Materials have been extensively tested under controlled conditions, have validated part properties, and have out-of-the-box optimised print parameters. Stainless Steel 17-4PH, Tool Steel H11, Nickel 625, and Invar are among the welding wires in the second batch. The first batch, consisting of Stainless Steel 316L, Stainless Steel 308L, Mild Steel ER70S, Titanium 64, and Nickel 718, was released earlier this year.

Because the Meltio SS17-4PH can achieve high hardness while providing excellent corrosion resistance, it is widely used in the oil and gas, aerospace, energy, and defence industries. The Meltio TSH11 has a long history of use in hot tooling, die manufacturing, and aerospace applications due to its excellent impact toughness. The weldability of the Meltio Ni625 is exceptional, making it an excellent choice for cladding or repair of components operating at high temperatures or requiring increased corrosion protection. The Meltio Invar is an excellent choice for measuring equipment and moulds for the production of composite components for aerospace applications.

Meltio’s wire LMD technology is still compatible with commodity welding wire from third parties. Meltio’s pioneering process is currently compatible with the majority of stainless steels, mild steels, tool steels, titanium alloys, nickel alloys, and invar. Furthermore, precious metals such as gold have performed admirably in customer-led projects. Materials such as copper, aluminium, and refractories are still being developed.

Meltio users benefit from the best of both worlds by offering the new Meltio range while also maintaining an open materials platform. On the one hand, it has the advantage of printing correctly the first time thanks to Meltio Materials’ optimised print profiles. On the other hand, the open materials platform allows Meltio users to push the boundaries by experimenting with various materials.
